Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part B

Prince Vidura, half-brother to Pandu and Dhritarashtra, guessed the plot of Duryodhana. Yudhishthira realized the condition of the palace and spoke his fears to his mother and brothers. Vidura sent a miner to dig Kunti and the Pandava brothers an underground passage. Once to safety of the forest, Bhima returned to the palace to seek revenge on the guardhouse in which he set fire to it. Wind blew the fire to catch on the lac palace which had happen to be housing a low-caste woman and her 5 sons all whom perished in the fire. The next morning, people thought the perished were Kunti and the Pandava brothers. The Pandavas entered the forest. Bhima watched over Kunti and his brothers. Hidimba and a disguised rakshasa human woman, who was his sister, tried to lure the Pandavas. Hidimba battled Bhima, but died. Bhima married the rakshasa woman. Her son vowed to aid them whenever they called upon him.
Kunti and the brothers minus Bhima were in Ekachakra. Bhima appeared and went to Baka. Bhima killed Baka.
Drupada, the one they fought for Drona, had a son and daughter. His wife was not ready to bear offspring so a son came from flames. He was named Drishtadyumna. His main purpose was to destroy Drona. Next a daughter arose, named Draupadi, and she would become the chief of all women. A higher power told Kunti and the brothers that Draupadi was destined to be a Pandava queen. The Pandavas went towards Panchala with brahmins.
Drupada had always wanted Arjuna to be Draupadi's husband so he created a test with a bow and arrow that he believed only Arjuna could perform. Many of the Pandavas enemies were also present to "compete" for Draupadi. Karna was alarmingly close to succeeding when Draupadi intervened saying she would not marry a "base-born". Arjuna only needed one arrow to succeed and Draupadi was filled with joy. In telling Kunti about Arjuna winning the bride, Arjuna claims that the princess is for the eldest, as he is his servant. All the brothers were invited to the palace. Vyasa claims that the gods declare all to be married to her. After talk, Draupadi was wed to all 5, based on age for order. Draupadi was the reincarnation of Nalayani who had prayed 5 times to "give me a husband".
Duryodhana, upon finding out out the Pandava brothers were alive and wed, became jealous. The Pandava brothers got their own country called Indraprastha.
The brothers found a way to equally be with Draupadi. One day, Arjuna had to interrupt Yudhishthira's time with Draupadi to get weapons. Arjuna decides to become an exile for 12 years as he broke the terms of the relationships. In exile, Arjuna met Ulupi and bore a son with him named Iravat.
One day, Arjuna was bathing in a river when an alligator seized him. Ulupi promised him that a sea creature shall never hurt him and he dragged the alligator out. The alligator turned into a nymph and told her story. She and her 4 friends were cursed and turned to alligators and only Arjuna could drag them ashore to break the curse.
In Manipur, Arjuna sought after Chitra and married her. He stayed for 3 years and a son was born. Arjuna left after the 3 years.
Arjuna liked Krishna's sister, Subhadra, who was supposed to be given unto Duryodhana. Arjuna took Subhadra by force beck towards Indraprastha. Realizing that none other would want to wed her now that she had been in the house of another, Arjuna and Subhadra returned for their marriage and a feast. After his exile, they returned to Indraprastha. Peace was made between the women.

Arjuna and Krishna agreed to help Agni, the god of fire, consume the Khandava forest. Maya was saved by Arjuna in the forest fire. He promised to build a palace for the Pandavas.
The Pandavas had become very powerful over time. Duryodhana had become full of jealous rage. He envied their palace and their glory. Duryodhana plotted with Shakuni to subjugate the Pandavas. They would gamble for the Pandavas kingdom. Yudhishthira gambled away all his jewels and money, his goods, his kingdom. He staked Draupadi and lost her to Duryodhana. Bhima was very angry that Yudhishthira had lost Draupadi. He vowed to never reach Heaven if he does not break the knee of Duryodhana in battle and kill Duhshasana.
Dhritarashtra, upon hearing all that has happened, grants Draupadi all her wishes. She wishes that all her husbands be freed from slavery and regain their fortunes. Again they would play for their fortunes by rolling dice. They lost and were sent to exile.

Introduction to a future PA

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey. I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from the Dallas, TX area much like a big portion of the students here at OU. My major is Health and Exercise Science, pre-PA. I have always been interested in sports and sport related injuries so I plan to become a PA for an orthopedic surgeon. The coolest thing about being a Health and Exercise Science major, or any major that is on a medical track, is that you have to take anatomy here at the university. The really unique thing about OU's anatomy course is that it is with cadaver. While that may freak most people out, the opportunities OU students have with having a cadaver experience really help for later admission into medical and graduate programs. Out of all my classes I have taken so far, that class would have to be the most challenging but also the coolest experience. As I said earlier, I am a big sports girl and root for all the Dallas teams, the Dallas Stars and...

Week 11 Story: The Case of the Missing Slipper

Once upon a time, lived a princess and her prince, on their vast piece of land. With them in their palace, lived hundreds of guards, servants, and courtiers to cater to their every needs. Next to their palace was a preparatory school. Many students would come to the palace to tour and hopefully prepare them for a life like the princess and the princes'. The princess and prince loved having an open landscape so they could get to know the students. On one sunny day, the prince and princess went for a lovely stroll along the pond that resided near the palace. As they were used to students often being around the palace, the princess told her courtiers to make sure her valuables were kept safe. The princess had her favorite pair of slippers that were her most important possession. They were a pair of beautiful pearl white slippers with a single pearl at the tip of the shoe.
