Reading Notes: Ramayana Reading D

Hanuman has arrived in Lanka and is now searching for Sita. He thinks he sees here, but realizes that there are difference between the woman he sees and how Rama described her. This woman is living luxuriously. After further searching, he finds Sita at Asoka Vana, which was basically a garden. She was being watched by the rakshasa women. Ravana still was trying to win over Sita to become his, but she stayed loyal and true to Rama. Ravana became mad and told the rakshasa women to break her will. Sita became sad that Rama forgot about her and had plans to hang herself. Hanuman went to Sita and explained everything and before he left, destroyed Asoka Vana. Ravana's son caught Hanuman, which was what Hanuman wanted. Hanuman burnt down the capital and returned to Rama to tell him what was done.

Ravana's capital is rebuilt by Maya, the architect of the gods. Ravana is in awe of his new city, but realizes that he needs to do something about his present situation. A big battle is in the foreshadow as Rama wants to get his wife back and Ravana has no plans of giving her up. Kumbakarna, Ravana's brother, suggests that Ravana's behaviors have not been the most honorable. The theme throughout this chapter and the development of the "evil" characters under Ravana's power shows that although they are an evil character, they themselves are not fully evil and are simply just under the wrong leader. Although Kumbakarna has this opinion, he also feels since they are so far into the conflict, that they must finish out the fight. Vibishana basically suggests to Ravana that although in the past he has made bad decisions, he can still do the right thing now by letting Sita go. Ravana is power hungry and going power crazy as all he knows is that he is strong and a leader with people who will listen to him. His power has corrupted him and his reasoning to make him believe he can do no wrong. Vibishana, still trying to reason with Ravana, leaves honorably by apologizing rather than being killed, then he goes to Rama's land to seek refuge.

Rama and his advisors are puzzled with what to do about Vibishana. Is he trustworthy and honorable or is he untrustworthy since he betrayed his brother. Rama, being the person that he is, trusts that Vibishana is there for protection and treats him as the ruler of Lanka. A plan of attack was made and put into action. Rama needs to cross the ocean and asks the sea god to allow him or he will dry up the sea. Rama's army and the animals show their loyalty to Rama by helping build the bridge to cross the sea.

Ravana tried to manipulate his soldiers and family members to protect Lanka, but no one returns. He also tried to infiltrate Rama's ranks, but no luck there. Lastly, he tells Sita that Rama is dead, but Sita refused to believe him. All Ravana's moves so far have been of manipulation and all have proved to not be useful for him. This shows that loyalty, honesty, and trustworthiness is more effective and important than manipulation. Rama sends Angada to ask Ravana to concede with Ravana declines. Angada attacks Ravana's attacks and destroys part of Ravana's newly built city. Indrajit, days after the fight has begun, shoots Rama and Lakshmana with arrows that make them look dead, but actually made them faint. Ravana shows this to Sita which made her want to die herself. However, one of Ravana's women reveal they are not actually dead and soon an eagle neutralizes the arrows and brings back consciousness to Rama and Lakshmana. Ravana fights himself and in the end Rama severely wounds him and breaks his crown. Rama sends Ravana back to his capital to get well so he can fight him honorably and on an equal playing field. Kumbakarna, who is loyal to his brother, will do right by Ravana even if he does not agree with his choices. Kumbakarna knows Ravana is in the wrong, but promises to bring Rama back, dead. Rama kills Kumbakarna which saddens Ravana. Indrajit makes a fake Sita to kill in front of Rama's army, but Vibishana realizes it's fake. Lakshmana kills Indrajit, which further angers Ravana into deciding to kill Sita. He is advised to instead take his anger out on Rama.

None of Ravana's people are returning which suggests that this fight is already lost for him. He decides to go out to the fight, claiming with Sita or his own wife will be a widow by the end of the day. The gods send Indra's chariot to help Rama, which shows that Rama is their true winner and is destined to win. Rama is hesitant to accept help but Hanuman and Lakshmana convince him. Ravana, having hit his breaking point, can only see red as he only cares about killing Rama. Ravana notices that Rama is in Indra's chariot and attacks with all his arrows, but none reach Rama. With all the weapons and obstacles Ravana is throwing towards Rama, he counters and blocks the attacks. Ravana feels hopeless and faints, but Rama does not take advantage of this by killing him but rather lets him recover. Rama kills Ravana by praying and invoking the power of asthra and sent it at Ravana's heart. Vibishana buries Ravana properly, as Rama is an honorable man and will do right by people, even those who are evil or do wrong by him.

Hanuman is sent for Sita who is overjoyed. Upon seeing him, it is awkward and Rama seems to fear that Ravana's manipulation may have affect her. Rama tells Sita she is free to go wherever she wants. Sita, obviously upset, orders Lakshmana to make a fire in which she bows before it and then jumps in. The god of fire then steps out of the fire with Sita to present her to Rama, who was testing her fidelity to him in which she passed.

With the fidelity test on Sita, the gods are worried that Rama is losing sight of his divine identity. Dasaratha visits earth to meet with Rama. Dasaratha has been dwelling on Kaikeyi's rule over him and Rama asks him to forgive and recant the grudge and disowning of Kaikeyi and Bharatha. Dasaratha blesses Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita before returning to heaven. Rama's 14-year exile has ended and he must return to Ayodhya to relieve Bharatha of his rule. Hanuman arrives in time to explain to Bharatha that Rama is on his way. Upon his arrival, he and Sita change for their coronation.

Introduction to a future PA

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey. I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from the Dallas, TX area much like a big portion of the students here at OU. My major is Health and Exercise Science, pre-PA. I have always been interested in sports and sport related injuries so I plan to become a PA for an orthopedic surgeon. The coolest thing about being a Health and Exercise Science major, or any major that is on a medical track, is that you have to take anatomy here at the university. The really unique thing about OU's anatomy course is that it is with cadaver. While that may freak most people out, the opportunities OU students have with having a cadaver experience really help for later admission into medical and graduate programs. Out of all my classes I have taken so far, that class would have to be the most challenging but also the coolest experience. As I said earlier, I am a big sports girl and root for all the Dallas teams, the Dallas Stars and

Week 5 Story: The It Couple

Updated version of the story located at  College and Karma . (Express Your Love; Source:  Needpix ) At the University of Oklahoma, Ryan and Sarah were the couple to be. Everyone envied what they had and wanted a relationship like theirs, even if it meant ruining their relationship. Ryan and Sarah were juniors at the university, but the moment they locked eyes at a frat party one Halloween night during freshman year, they were hooked. It was love, and lust, at first sight. Sarah was a preacher's daughter and had only had short relationships in high school while Ryan was Mr. Popular Jock and definitely made a reputation for himself as a player. Let's just say, high school Sarah and Ryan probably would not have been a thought in anyone's mind. Sarah was the sweet, loyal girl who was friends with everyone and Ryan was the jock that was a part of the exclusive, "cool" crowd. Sarah's dad, Joe, being a preacher, was very strict and concerned about who his dau
