Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues- Part A

This video tells the Ramayana story in another way. The video starts out with a human, modern day couple, Nina and Dave. Dave accepts a job in India, which is when the video starts to explain the ancient story of Sita and Rama. Some foreshadowing that can be taken possibly, is the comparison from Nina and Dave in the beginning of the video with Rama and Sita. As the video plays out, it will be interesting to see if there is actually a connection between the 2 couples.

The video tells the story of Rama and Sita through 3 narrators. They are comical and add a relaxed and enjoyable aspect to the story that makes it easy to understand what is happening. Within the video are short segments where Sita sings her feelings. This makes the story more relatable as she is singing about her love, or how she misses Rama.

The video is very similar to the book version of the story so far as Rama is sent to exile due to Kaikeyi wishes. Sita goes with him, but the difference is that Lakshmana is not with them. Sita is still taken by Ravana, and Rama is very distraught and sends Hanuman to find her. Sita is very loyal to Rama and refuses to fall for Ravana's manipulations or commands.

The 3 narrators bring a very different aspect to the story as they share their opinions on why Sita acted the way she did. For example, when Hanuman got to Sita, they share that they think Sita refused to go with him as she wanted Rama to come and get her.

When the video flips to an interaction between Nina and Dave and Nina is meeting Dave in India, he does not accept her in his arms, easily. He says that touching and showing displays of affections in public is not allowed. Then it flips back to Rama and Sita when Rama does not run to Sita when she is free as she had lived in another man's house and he did not trust her entirely yet. This occurrence between the 2 couples further shows the connection.

Part A of the video ends with the Nina and Dave going their separate ways as Nina is going back to NYC and Rama and Sita returning to Ayodhya.

Introduction to a future PA

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey. I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from the Dallas, TX area much like a big portion of the students here at OU. My major is Health and Exercise Science, pre-PA. I have always been interested in sports and sport related injuries so I plan to become a PA for an orthopedic surgeon. The coolest thing about being a Health and Exercise Science major, or any major that is on a medical track, is that you have to take anatomy here at the university. The really unique thing about OU's anatomy course is that it is with cadaver. While that may freak most people out, the opportunities OU students have with having a cadaver experience really help for later admission into medical and graduate programs. Out of all my classes I have taken so far, that class would have to be the most challenging but also the coolest experience. As I said earlier, I am a big sports girl and root for all the Dallas teams, the Dallas Stars and...

Week 13 Story: Simba The Silent

In the lands of Africa, there was a big rock in which was ruled by lions. There once was a small lion cub... well at least he looked like a lion cub. We'll call him Simba and he was the son of the king lion. Simba had always been different from the other cubs. His parents knew he was different and Simba knew he was different, but they kept his specialness to themselves. If the other animals found out then Simba could not be the heir to the throne, but Simba was a social butterfly and was always around the other cubs. He was always playing with the other lion cubs and causing a ruckus. One day they were playing hide and seek. Simba was the last cub hiding and the other cubs had no idea where he was. Simba had the element of surprise on his side and he wanted to frighten the others. So he inhaled a big, huge breath and opened his mouth, preparing to let out the loudest and scariest roar any of the cubs had ever heard. Except that loud, scary roar is not what came out. Instead, the n...
