Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues- Part B

Notes taken on the video: Sita Sings the Blues

The start of part B begins in NYC and Nina. Nina has received an email from Dave that says "Don't come back" with inevitability breaks her heart. Back in the Ramayana story, Sita tells Rama she is pregnant. There is a new story included in this video where dhobi, a laundry man, is explaining how he is not like Rama in the sense that he will not take his wife back since she has slept in another man's house. Because of this story, Rama sends Lakshmana to take Sita to the forest and abandon her. The narrators include that they feel as though Rama always had doubt about how pure Sita was. I think this is interesting since this feeling was not portrayed strongly in the book version.

Back in the U.S. with Nina, she is dreaming of Dave and caught up on him which is similar to how Sita feels with Rama. Both women show loyalty to their men and complete sadness about not being with them anymore. Sita believes she has had Karma put upon her for some wrongdoing. Sita gave birth to her 2 sons in the forest. Valmiki teaches them to praise Rama.

The narrators talk about the similarities between Nina and Sita. Both of them have unconditional love for their men as Nina calls Dave and begs for him to take her back and Sita prays to Rama.

Rama overhears his sons singing, but does not originally know that they are his until he sees them. He wants to take his sons back to Ayodhya, but does not want Sita unless she proves her purity again. She proves this by calling upon Mother Earth to take her back to her womb. After she sings her song, she leaves them into Mother Earth's womb.

Nina is shown reading the Ramayana and working on the film.

Introduction to a future PA

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey. I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from the Dallas, TX area much like a big portion of the students here at OU. My major is Health and Exercise Science, pre-PA. I have always been interested in sports and sport related injuries so I plan to become a PA for an orthopedic surgeon. The coolest thing about being a Health and Exercise Science major, or any major that is on a medical track, is that you have to take anatomy here at the university. The really unique thing about OU's anatomy course is that it is with cadaver. While that may freak most people out, the opportunities OU students have with having a cadaver experience really help for later admission into medical and graduate programs. Out of all my classes I have taken so far, that class would have to be the most challenging but also the coolest experience. As I said earlier, I am a big sports girl and root for all the Dallas teams, the Dallas Stars and...

Week 13 Story: Simba The Silent

In the lands of Africa, there was a big rock in which was ruled by lions. There once was a small lion cub... well at least he looked like a lion cub. We'll call him Simba and he was the son of the king lion. Simba had always been different from the other cubs. His parents knew he was different and Simba knew he was different, but they kept his specialness to themselves. If the other animals found out then Simba could not be the heir to the throne, but Simba was a social butterfly and was always around the other cubs. He was always playing with the other lion cubs and causing a ruckus. One day they were playing hide and seek. Simba was the last cub hiding and the other cubs had no idea where he was. Simba had the element of surprise on his side and he wanted to frighten the others. So he inhaled a big, huge breath and opened his mouth, preparing to let out the loudest and scariest roar any of the cubs had ever heard. Except that loud, scary roar is not what came out. Instead, the n...
