Reading Notes: Mahabharata videos, Part D

For today's free reading notes, I am continuing with the epified Mahabharata videos. Since I am already familiar with the story and have taken notes from the first time I read it, I wanted to hone in my focus on a more specific part of the story. In most of my notes and blogs, I wanted to focus on parts of the stories that could inspire a karmic action that could be useful in my college and karma portfolio project. So far with my work, I have focused on stories that revolve around relationships between a man and woman, like the relationship between Sita and Rama, or the rejection and hard work overcome to get what is desired eventually, like Ekalavya's story of becoming the most skilled archer which he eventually gave up. In both of the above stories, I was inspired by the positive outcome that I could conjure up to make the characters inviting and inspiring. With this next part of the Mahabharata, I want to focus on Arjuna's journey during his exile. As I read through the Mahabharata, I always thought Arjuna was a respectable character and wanted to research some more on his time in exile.

Arjuna was one of the pandava brothers. Draupadi was to marry each brother one at a time and the one who failed to abide would be sent to exile for 12 years. Arjuna heard the cries of a Brahmin and promised to help. Arjuna then realized that his weapons were in Yudhishthira's chamber. It was Yudhishthira's turn with Draupadi so stepping into his chamber would send Arjuna into exile. Arjuna knew this, but still went to get his weapons as he promised the Brahmin his help. Arjuna resolved the problem with the Brahmin, and knew he had to leave. Yudhishthira begged him to stay, but Arjuna knew the right thing to do was to leave. Arjuna found shelter by a lake. One day in the lake, Arjuna was dragged down and fell unconscious. When he woke, he was met by a woman, Ulupi. Ulupi wanted to marry Arjuna, but Arjuna told her about Draupadi. His temptation grew to strong and he lived with Ulupi for months. He then knew he must leave to the next destination, leaving Ulupi behind. Arjuna reach the kingdom of Manalur, where he stayed there disguised as a Brahmin. Arjuna then fell in love with Chitragandha, the king's daughter, and married her. He spent 3 years and had a child in Manalur. Arjuna had the need to go back to his brothers, so one night he left to go home to Indraprasha.

Introduction to a future PA

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey. I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am originally from the Dallas, TX area much like a big portion of the students here at OU. My major is Health and Exercise Science, pre-PA. I have always been interested in sports and sport related injuries so I plan to become a PA for an orthopedic surgeon. The coolest thing about being a Health and Exercise Science major, or any major that is on a medical track, is that you have to take anatomy here at the university. The really unique thing about OU's anatomy course is that it is with cadaver. While that may freak most people out, the opportunities OU students have with having a cadaver experience really help for later admission into medical and graduate programs. Out of all my classes I have taken so far, that class would have to be the most challenging but also the coolest experience. As I said earlier, I am a big sports girl and root for all the Dallas teams, the Dallas Stars and...

Week 13 Story: Simba The Silent

In the lands of Africa, there was a big rock in which was ruled by lions. There once was a small lion cub... well at least he looked like a lion cub. We'll call him Simba and he was the son of the king lion. Simba had always been different from the other cubs. His parents knew he was different and Simba knew he was different, but they kept his specialness to themselves. If the other animals found out then Simba could not be the heir to the throne, but Simba was a social butterfly and was always around the other cubs. He was always playing with the other lion cubs and causing a ruckus. One day they were playing hide and seek. Simba was the last cub hiding and the other cubs had no idea where he was. Simba had the element of surprise on his side and he wanted to frighten the others. So he inhaled a big, huge breath and opened his mouth, preparing to let out the loudest and scariest roar any of the cubs had ever heard. Except that loud, scary roar is not what came out. Instead, the n...
